Fern ~ Raithneach
Planet: Mercury Zodiac: Gemini
Language of Flowers & Symbolism: Secrecy, magic, protection, luck and healing
Ferns were considered an exceptionally odd and magical type of creature, in no small part because they didn't appear to produce either fruit or flowers as a plant should. The seeds were believed to make one invisible when gathered on Samhain eve and carrying them in your pocket would bring good luck in cards. Ferns were very much a fairy plant and it was thought that you could banish a fairy changling to a river or lake by turning them into a clump of ferns.
These magnificent earrings were made with a Fern leaf from my garden. I first create a mold from the leaf from which I create a precious metal clay cast which when fired at a very high temperature leaves a solid Sterling Silver pendant. This then served as a master copy which was sent to a professional casting house so identical multiples of the original can be made.
Each piece is then filed, patinaed, sanded and polished in my home studio before being finished with handmade ear wires.
You can choose between a simpler pair with just the Fern leaves or a more ornate version finished with two beautiful grey rosecut labradorite gemstones set in fine silver lace. Please note I will be making three pairs with Labradorite so the gemstones your pair are made with may not be the exact ones pictured.
Your piece will come packaged safely in one of my beautiful signature gift boxes complete with a thank you card that explains the heritage of the piece and a care instruction card. If you'd like me to include a hand-written note on your behalf, just leave a note in the 'message to seller' box at checkout.
