This sweetly simple plant talisman was made with a real oak leaf from my garden. The piece is made by first creating a soft mold of the fresh leaf, which I can then use to cast in fine silver clay. Once cured I fire the clay with a jewellers torch to create a solid Sterling silver medallion. This is then filed, patinaed and polished by hand before finishing with a chain. All steps of the process are done entirely by hand here in my home studio in West Cork, Ireland.
The Oak (or Duir in Irish) is a very significant tree in Irish mythology and long revered as the King of the forest by the Druids. Symbolically it has come to represent strength, wisdom, resistance and courage as well of course as the potential for birth, life and creativity that pulses within the acorn.
As these pieces are woven from soft clay and so have a lovely organic, textured finish that comes when pieces are sculpted by hand so please don't expect perfect symmetry, they're as perfectly imperfect as nature tends to be.
Your piece will come packaged safely in one of my beautiful signature gift boxes complete with a thank you card that explains the heritage of the piece and a care instruction card. If you'd like me to include a hand-written note on your behalf, just leave a note in the 'message to seller' box at checkout.
